WORLDWIDE
PROJECT : INSURANCE UNDERWRITER SECURITY SURVEYS
Martello acts on behalf of an international independent loss adjusting firm as specialist risk assessors, conducting security surveys on high-risk or distressed industrial and commercial sites. Our expertise extends to high-value private properties, diamond and gold mines, jewellery traders, art galleries, museums, cash-in-transit operations, bank depots, and transport hubs. We review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring they reflect current technical developments and evolving criminal methodologies.
Recently, we conducted security assessments for potential traders applying for insurance under Ghana’s Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF), the nation’s sovereign minerals fund. Our work included site surveys where cash and precious metals would be stored, evaluation of proposed physical and technical security measures, and analysis of each trader’s security policies and procedures. We also reviewed their Vault-in-Transit (ViT) and Cash-in-Transit (CiT) operations, including vehicle security, communications, alarm and surveillance systems, and operational protocols.
Following these assessments, we developed a set of minimum security standards for MIIF, establishing a consistent benchmark for all participating traders. Our deliverables included a comprehensive written report, a detailed table of recommendations, and ongoing advisory support for the insured, brokers, and underwriters.
In addition to this, we also conduct security surveys for secure deposit facilities across Europe and the Caribbean. One such Caribbean site holds valuables and precious metals valued at approximately USD $900 million.
EGYPT
PROJECT : PROJECT SECURITY MANAGEMENT
Between 2017 and 2019, Martello successfully deployed consecutive security managers to Egypt in support of one of the world’s largest solar park developments at the time. Our team provided comprehensive, on-the-ground management of all security-related resources, including journey management planning, intelligence gathering, and stakeholder engagement to ensure the safety of personnel and protection of assets.
The deployed managers also delivered ongoing quality assurance and oversight of local security providers, while offering critical feedback on community-related dynamics. The project was completed after 18 months with no security incidents, marking a successful closeout.
In February 2025, Martello was once again engaged to deploy back-to-back security managers, this time supporting our client Scatec ASA at a major development near Nagaa Hammadi in the Qena Governorate. Scatec is delivering a pioneering hybrid renewable energy project comprising 1 GW of solar power and 100 MW/200 MWh of battery storage—the first of its kind in Egypt.
Martello’s security team is responsible for overseeing the mobilisation of the local security provider, developing site-specific plans and procedures, and assessing both technical and physical security measures. In addition, the team provides ongoing mentorship to the national security manager and serves as a direct liaison to Scatec’s executive leadership.
CAMEROON
PROJECT : COUNTRY SECURITY ASSESSMENT
A global solar company tasked us to provide a threat and risk assessment and in-country security assessment of two locations in Cameroon in the Extreme North Region.
The purpose of the task was to provide a risk assessment and development of capability in support of the development of two solar sites and the deployment of expatriate staff. The report covered a range of typologies, including civil unrest, government stability, civil conflict and terrorism.
We identified a local security consultant to add context to the risk assessment, source security providers, develop mitigation strategies, plans and procedures thus enabling the client to build capability and capacity.
We are currently providing protective intelligence for both locations. The purpose of Protective Intelligence is to provide a proactive method of identifying, assessing, and mitigating possible threats to a project, individual or event. This is conducted by creating a protective bubble around the operational area, analysing the threats that might be posed to that area and developing action plans or tasks to lower or mitigate the risks.
MALI & BURKINA FASO
PROJECT : SECURITY SUPPORT & CRISIS MANAGEMENT
Provided two security managers operating on a rotational system to support the client’s operations in Bamako, Mali and Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso.
The client is a multinational engineering company specializing in products and services for mining, rock excavation, rock drilling, rock processing, metal cutting and machining. Martello conducted research using open and human source information to develop a threat assessment to identify key risks to their operations. From this, we put together a risk treatment plan.
The risk treatment plan considered physical, technical and procedural measures. The plan was submitted to the client and Martello supported the implementation of these measures over a three-month period.
We continue to support this client by providing outsourced security support and regular assurance visits to their operational areas to ensure the measures are implemented effectively.
UNITED KINGDOM
PROJECT : SECURITY REVIEW
Martello was commissioned to provide a security review of an Independent School in Kent. Using ISO31000 Risk Management process, we developed a risk assessment identifying the most plausible risk scenarios that might impact the staff, pupils and college assets. To add context we conducted a detailed physical review to identify vulnerabilities within the site and developed a risk treatment plan. We based our recommendations on the Department of Education site security guidance, benchmarked with other colleges and schools and aligned to the prevailing threats in the risk assessment.
We provided the college with a report detailing our recommendations and a risk register to enable them to track current scenarios and add new risks when identified.
PAKISTAN
PROJECT : PROJECT SECURITY MANAGEMENT
Conducted threat and risk assessment, a country visit following the principles described in ISO31000. From this initial assessment, we developed a suite of plans - security and emergency response plans, journey management plan and evacuation plan.
We prepared tender documentation and distributed this to potential security providers and assessed bid response. The selected security provider delivers local transportation, meet and greet services and protection at the project accommodation.
We assisted in the recruitment of a local security manager and provided a mobilisation programme to familiarise them with the project.
We provide continued outsourced security management and consultancy when required with weekly assurance meetings with the local security manager feeding actions and observations to the client.
PAPUA NEW GUINEA

The team consisted of six individuals with a variety of skills including security provider training and mentoring, social and community risk management, local language, strategic planning, management and advice, contingency planning and journey management.
The Team provided security management support and training for 18 months with no further security incident.
